Saint Clare, Patron Saint of Needleworkers

The Feast of St. Clare, Patron Saint of Needleworkers (1193-1253 is celebrated on August 11.

Clare di Faverone was born into Nobility to a family of the town of Assisi. She was educated accordingly.
Assisi was known for its fine embroidery and, as part of her education, Clare would have learned how to demonstrate the most intricate patterns and stitches of that time.

Clare met Francis di Bernadone (Saint Francis of Assisi) and became a follower of his teachings. At eighteen, she discarded the privileges of her birthright to live the cloistered life of a nun.

Many years later, Clare became ill, and she spent the next 30 years as an invalid. In spite of her illness, she tried to be of service in whatever way she could. She turned to needlework. Accounts from that time tell that Clare was never idle, even in illness, and had herself propped up in bed so that she could stitch.

It is known that Clare spun flax into thread, and after the linen was woven, she made altar linens for many of the churches around Assisi.

Six Stitchy Things

SIX STITCHY THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT ME:

1. My favourite fabric of all is Banjo Cloth. It's just a simple rustic aida but it is perfect for country / primitive designs.

If you have any to sell or trade... email me!

2. I have 40+ Crossed Wing Collection charts.  Including the Christmas Cardinals Design that is now OOP.  I've never stitched any of them. :(

3. I stitch in-hand.  I've tried Q-Snaps, frames, hoops, etc.  I just can't do it.

4. I am a reformed Linen Snob. Evenweave is my soul-mate.

5. At last count, I've finished 169 cross-stitch pieces.  It's possible I have the same number of WIPs.

6. I AM a silk snob. Vikki Clayton's Hand-Dyed Fibers were, and forever will be, my favourite silks.  I have dozens of skeins and spools.  I use them sparingly as there are no more to be made.

7. BONUS:  My favourite cross-stitch photos:

Morgan Rose at her stitching!

What stitchy things do you have to share? I'd love to know!

Happy Stitching Ya'll!

Pumpkins 4-Sale -- small progress

I worked on Pumpkins 4-Sale for a few hours this evening.  Not only did I make some progress, but I charted my own special addition to the design -- a small tribute to my late sister, Beth.  I'll stitch that into the piece tomorrow.

Would you believe I had NO skeins of Black from any fiber company?  Mike had to make a quick run to Jo Ann's for me.  First time I've never had any DMC 310 since I started stitching 20+ years ago.

My football hopes for UGA were dashed by LSU this afternoon.  However, the Crimson Tide is rolling!  My Milwaukee Brewers today as well.  *sigh*

I wish you all a very peaceful, calm, blessed evening.  Stay safe and Happy Stitching!

October PINK RIBBON Cross Stitch Freebie

I designed this small Pink Ribbon Christmas design several years ago.

Free, if you'd like to save it / stitch it.

It's nothing spectacular, but I designed it with love.

Such slow progress... *sigh*

Pumpkins 4 Sale:

Progress as of Friday September 28th.  The photo is terrible. It washed out the green of the fabric and it looks like the second pumpkin is crooked. I promise -- it looks better in person!

It's college football day! So, #GoDawgs, #RollTide, #HottyToddy, #GoIrish, #GoNavy, #GATA!  I think that about covers it.

It's now storming in Savannah: gales, rain, thunder, lightning.  Perfect time to watch football and stitch.

Ya'll stitch happy!

Pumpkins 4 Sale: Small Progress

So far, this is it for Pumpkins 4 sale.

The fabric is actually a light Jade Green.  I'll get a better photo tomorrow.  I am really enjoying this piece, but I want it at least 1/2 done by the 1st of October.

Hope your day has been filled with love, peace, and cross stitching!

REMINDER: My Birthday Giveaway begins on October 1st!

Welcome Autumn!

Optimistic Biopsy Outlook

The lesion turned out to be a shadow.  They did find... are you ready for this?... Eleven Nodules. All appear to be benign cysts.  Doc did send samples in to pathology and I should have results by mid-week.

Thank you for your continued prayers.

Mom is doing well at Rehab and I am so relieved.

I can't do too much today, so I'll be picking up needle and thread.

Anyone interested in a Ladybug themed giveaway for November???

Let me know!

Love to all, have a great weekend, and happy stitching!

My mother will be moved to rehab this afternoon!  #GoMom!

Morgan Rose and MeiMei

Please send prayers and good thoughts to all in the path of Hurricane Florence.  May the Good Lord protect you and keep you safe.

I have the double-biopsies tomorrow morning and I've become quite anxious.  I think I'll stitch for a while.

P.S.  My Birthday Giveaway will begin on October 1st!  Three Winners!

Be safe, happy stitching.

HAPPY DANCING!

October Cottage / October Calendar Girl is finished!!!  I am Happy Dancing!

I'll try to get a better photo later.  I may add one more line of grass under my girl's feet.  But I'm happy with it.  I used colours that *I* like and that are colours found on a Savannah October's day.

Tomorrow,  I will begin work on Pumpkins 4-Sale!

October Girl: So darn close!

I should really be finished with October Girl.  I just can't take another stitch this night.

It's storming, the lights have blinked on and off and on again. I'm afraid I'll screw something up and have to frog tomorrow.

Current Progress:

As much as I have loved working on this piece, I'm eager to start work on Pumpkins 4-Sale!

My Mom is steadily improving, although she is not out of the woods yet.  This news keeps me going and I haven't had a meltdown of epic proportions.  I keep praying and asking the Good Lord to heal and comfort her.

Praying that everyone has a wonderful, blessed, and safe Labour Day weekend.  May your week bring you joy.

Happy Stitching!

Welcome September!

Welcome September!  I have been yearning for you since May.

Now comes the Autumn and I rejoice!

UPDATE: My Mom seems to be more alert today and is responding to the nurses' commands!

*deep sigh of relief*

We'll be going to see her tomorrow along with Morgan Rose.  Hoping she'll acknowledge and know us.

I received some new stash today. Charts, buttons, fabric, and floss!

Afternoon in London and Afternoon in Paris from Country Cottage Needleworks plus some sweet Ladybug buttons!

Pumpkins 4-Sale (LHN) and ThreadworX Cotton Floss.

32 count Lugana from Picture This Plus in a gorgeous Jade Green!

*Stashgasm!*

I'll begin working on Pumpkins 4-Sale as my project for the Fall LHN / CCN Facebook Group SAL (Stitch Along)

Happy stitching, ya'll.  May your September be ever blessed.

The lighthouse above is the Cockspur Island Light.  It sits just off of Fort Pulaski near Tybee Island, where I was born and raised.
The "Waving Girl", Florence Martus, rowed out to the light often with her father, a lighthouse keeper.

October Calendar Girl: Update

I've been working on LHN's October Calendar Girl for a few hours.

I like the few changes I made.  I shortened her hair because mine is short.  Trying to figure out a way to give her some strands of silver and a few curls.

I made her dress blue as I'm not a grey dress kinda gal.

I've gotten a bit of push-back on my colour changes and choices.  But I'm stitching this for me and I like it.

I don't mind constructive criticism -- but not outright complaints.

I am beginning to think I MAY have this project completed by September 1st.  I hope so as I can't wait to begin Pumpkins 4-Sale!

HAPPY STITCHING!

New stash, new start...

Not really a "new" start, I suppose. I'm adding LHN's October Girl to the right-hand side of October Cottage.

I finished the vine and will work on "girl" tomorrow.  I think I may give her short hair and lots of grey, like mine!

I received new stash from 123Stitch.com:  Wild Salt Air from Hands On Design and 28 Ct. APRIL Lugana from Crossed Wing Collection.

I can't wait to finish OG and Pumpkins 4 Sale so that I can work on Wild Salt Air.

Have a wonderfully blessed evening!

Happy Stitching!
