What proportion of your stitching is for your own personal use versus gifts?
A full 90% of everything I stitch is for myself (okay, that does include Mike and Morgan, too). I do a few things like quilt squares for good causes, but i don't usually gift people with my needlework.
I think perhaps it's because I don't really stitch anything that doesn't appeal to me personally or have some deeper meaning for me.
I've stitched a couple of pieces for my Mom... one for my MIL and Mike's Step-mom... a small band sampler for a former co-worker... and nothing else really.
I put a lot of time and effort into the pieces I stitch -- I like to keep them.
